Valve rattle?

I have recently started to notice a rattle from the engine of my 04 on acceleration, particularly from cold start. Sounds like it is the valves....

Is this common? Should I be concerned?

It is due for it's 60k soon and is still under extended warranty so I will probably mention it when I take it in but I would like to get some background info first if possible.

It's most likely valve lash, no big deal. You may decide to have the valve clearance adjusted or you may not. It makes little difference apart from a little noise. Valve noise is made worse by using thin oil like 0w-15 or 5w-20 because it doesn't damp the noise but it doesn't accelerate wear.

you know, change the oil and filter. it helped to do this once, it's worth a try.

By using oil and keeping the filter clean it wont get that much noise...
