Friends: 0 | Do any of you Bostonians have a recommendation on a locksmith who will reprogram Smart keys for my 2008 and the remote fob for my 2002? I lost a ring with one of each on it. Herb chambers wants $525 to replace them both. I know they are expensive, but do they need to be that expensive? Any help is appreciated. |

Friends: 0 | I doubt that you will find a locksmith who has the equipment to program a Smart Key. Get prices from several Toyota dealers and then make your choice. |

Friends: 0 | I just had my pocket book stolen. To get a new immoblilizer ECU, 1 key and 1 remote it's $1,020 plus tax. Ridiculous! But I had no choice - I actually lost 2 keys and remotes which would have been a couple of hundred more. As far as I know - you have to go to a Totota dealer. |

You need do a search for the issue. There is a way to allow the Prius to connect to a new set of keys rather than replacing the ECU. But has to be at the dealer and they might have even have to call Toyota but it will cost much less. Steve | |

Friends: 0 | I ended up buying a new fob for the 02 on the net, followed their instructions for programing and it works. herb chambers toyota in boston wanted $119 for the fob and $100 to program it. my new fob cost me $29 plus $5 shipping. I love dealerships. I bought a salvaged smartkey on the net for the 08 for $55 and had another dealership program it for $60. Herb chambers toyota wanted over $200 for the fob and $150 to program it. it seems from other web info that the replacing the ECU is the dealer's easy out and is not necessary but there is conflicting info on that. I am not buying another smart key car. |
