Default Newbie from the SFV

Hello to everyone! I'm so happy that I found this great forum.

I started looking for a Prius (Package 6) this week. I've been frustrated by a couple of dealers here in the San Fernando Valley. They basically are only offering MSRP. The best price I got was $27,400 which is only $700 below MSRP.

I'm browsed through the ads on Craigslist. It seems that the best prices are up in Northern California. I saw one for $25,388. If that's true, I'm willing to drive to Northern California so I can save $2,000.

Any suggestions? I'm pretty open to color. But, I like the Silver Pine Mica.

Email dealers asking them for their best quote because you're planning to get a car this weekend. Then take the best emailed quote to your local dealer and tell them to beat it if they want a sale. I could have gotten a Pkg 6 for 25,757.00 using that method. I chose to go Pkg 2 because the 6 disc cd change is of no use to me. By the way, I'm in Ventura, CA.

The best quote I got was $25,900 for the package 6. Where did you get the $25,757 quote?

Ventura Toyota, through the internet. I went on their site and made a request for their best price.

I went into SFV dealerships as well, and the prices were more than I wanted to pay. So I went online and emailed about 5 or 6 dealers, from Santa Monica to Northridge and Simi Valley gave me the lowest price. I took that price to the dealer of my choice and asked them to match it and they did (call them first to make sure they can). I have a Silver pine in color, pkg #2, (since I didnt want Nav or blue tooth(i already had a portable GPS) and my price was $22,315. Good luck with your search, but try out the internet before you start driving.

MrBlaise and Hybrid Netta, thank you!

I did get at least 10 internet quotes. Santa Monica gave me that verbal quote. He won't put it on an email. The others were much higher.

I'm still waiting for the others to come in.

Thanks again.

I live on the central coast in CA - I drove up to Walnut Creek (near SF) to get the best deal -

I paid $25,471 for a package #6, fully loaded, non-touring, from Walnut Creek Toyota. Ask for Katie in the Internet dept. Wonderful experience, great dealership.

West SFV / Ventura Co. newbie here also! I got Internet quotes from Manhattan Beach all the way up to Ventura, and most were $500 off MSRP. I was looking for a Pkg #5 (didnt need leather) in any color. Got the usual "we need to call you to confirm" old school high-pressure dealer tricks CRAP from a lot of SoCal Toyota dealers (odd, since I specified a STOCK # for the EXACT UNIT from their own website - God I hate car dealers and their ridiculous scams, calling us "marks" and treating us like morons - ah, but I digress).

I finally emailed Longo in El Monte, figuring that as the largest they would be ultra-high-pressure (like Galpin) and play the most games. I was totally wrong. On the first quote request, I got a Pkg #5 plus Sirius installed with 9 months free service for $23,900. All I did was go in, sign the paperwork AT THE SALESMAN'S DESK - No F&I!!!! - and drive off.

Oh, and they matched my First Entertainment Credit Union 5.7% rate with TMCC, too.

Totally painless, and it was actually pleasant to buy a car there.

That's a great price! I'll try to find another dealer here in SoCal who would come close to that.

While writing this post, I got a call from Palo Alto for the package 6 (Magnetic Grey) for $25,288. WOW!

Thanks for the tip. I will email them. Who did you deal with? I can also ask for him/her.
