Default New Owner in NJ

Got my 2008 Black Prius with Package #2 on 03/29/08. Love the car but somewhat disappointed with the mileage so far (Around 38 MPG as per display). Perhaps 130 miles is too early to judge. Hoping it will get better.

My 1 st NJ tank was also 38 MPG -- was surprised b/c I thought I was pretty good at reading the car & keeping the mpg's down.

But, in ten weeks, I've worked it up to 42, 48, & now 50-something.

Keep reading the threads for the "best practices" -- they turn out to be rather different from driving a conventional car.

Happy Trails !

Thx. I have been trying to do better by very gentle acceleration and coasting to charge the the batteries. Looking at the tips seems like I had it wrong. That's good. Slow acceleration was not helpful in NJ traffic.

Welcome to the 2 new owners. First, check your tire pressure & pump it up to at least 42/40.

Checked the pressure this morning. Sure enough it was lower than recommended. Close to 30. Incidentally that's what person at the dealership who handed over the car to me suggested.

On a related note I wonder why the sales people on most of the dealerships are so clueless about the product they are selling. Do they expect everyone to walk in without doing any home work. I just hope the service people are better.

Most of the service people are better. Some are not. The good news is the Prius doesn't have many problems & is low maintenance. Look forward to just needing oil & filter changes for a good long time.
