i got an 08 prius with 80k on it in houston for 15k out the door in march. its been flawless for 5k already.

2008 new Prius Package #6 Touring Vehicle price to me after my $1,136 discount was $27,268 before taxes on 2/29/2008.

Bottom line total: I added a dent & chip warranty for $249 + $1380 tax to the State of Iowa + $137 title & license fees + $68 Documentation fee (assume to the county) + $10 lien. Total delivered price include taxes, license, registration, and dent and ding warranty was $29,128 on 2/29/2008 for a package #6 when gas was still around $3 per gallon.

I had been thinking about getting a Prius since I rode in a Prius I back in August of 2007, and my friend showed me he was averaging 50 mpg. I had no idea this was even possible back then. Then when I discovered the Prius II, wow, what a difference in styling and size. People preached to me, "Prius are too expensive and you will never get a payback", etc. I don't consider myself an environmentalist, but when I go to CA, I see the 12 lanes of bumper to bumper for miles into the horizon, and I wonder if and when this world will run out of gas. Plus, I was tired of filling up my 22 gallon 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham V8 tank up to twice a week. I was heading 2000 miles to CA and the last time I did that in the Caddy it was 110 gallons one way! I did the cost analysis and I figured I would save $167 a month in fuel cost over the cad (that was back at $2.89 per gallon prices in Feb). This was not even close to what it would cost me per month for a new Prius. But then the Fleetwood is 12 years old and the Prius is brand new, so you have to figure that in the equation someplace. Also, I was pretty sure gas prices will only increase, but I had no idea they would increase so shockingly fast since the day I bought my Prius II.

I test drove a package #2 model 2008 in January 2008 at the Toyota Dealer in Iowa City and they were offering something like $400 under sticker (if you pressed them a little). The salesman was lamenting the fact that in 2007 people were paying over sticker. But this was the dead of winter and the tax incentive was over. There were a few on the lot then. I wasn't in a big hurry, but I decided in February to do it even if the cost analysis payback was never.

In Feb 2008 the dealer in Ames, Iowa had 6 Priuses sitting on the lot. 5 package #2, and 1 package #6. I test drove several and loved the GPS, bluetooth, 6 CD changer, 9 speakers, and the Magnetic Gray color of the package #6, so I decided what the heck, the price difference between #2 & #6 was about $6000, and I will drive this car every day for years. It was the last day of Feb 2008, and I didn't realize this but the last day of the month is a great day to buy a car because the salespeople have quota's to meet, and the dealer is pushing one more sale for the month. I also mentioned that I had test driven at the other dealer and they offered me a discount :-)

The window sticker price on my package #6 was $28,404 and they knocked off $1,136 down to $27,268. Package #6 includes leather seats, and I didn't even reall know what a touring package was until I drove it. And I know it is supposed to get 2 mpg less, but I loved the touring while driving mountain roads.

I picked up the new Prius, left for CA w only 50 miles on the odometer, drove 2000 miles on just a hair over 40 gallons total !! Avg just under 50 mpg, and we did not baby it, usually running 75 to 80 on Interstates, and it was winter. But this was a staggering 70 gallons less than my dear old Cadillac used on the same trip exact trip.

New 2008 prius (White, touring, package 5, as I wanted) for MSRP in Houston.
Order submitted in the first week in May, it arrived about June 20th.

The only fexibility I put in the order was a "don't care" but prefer grey on the interior.. ended up with bisque which I'm amazed that I haven't stained yet in 2 weeks of driving it.

I see Tri-State Toyota in Dudley Mass is advertising a 2007 for $27,997! They don't list the mileage or option pkg but it looks to be a low # pkg. While not far away Herb Chambers Toyota in Auburn Mass put me on the list for a new option 2 for $24, 084. I can wait rather than pay thousands more for a used model.

Argh... I ate it big time for a 2008 Black Prius Package 2. No waiting list, out the door for $29,384. (sob) I panicked, they had 4 cars at 11:00 AM but by the time I got there only 1 was left and someone had just test drove it. $995 of that was for a Stealth Tracking device with GPS anti-theft locatability on the Internet. I still don't know if it was worth the $995.00. If my car is stolen, I know where the transponder is at least. LOL

I love my Prius though, and even though the "Dealership Value Mark-up" hurt, I am not sorry I bought it.

In the Nashville, TN area, most dealers are charging the MSRP on the Toyota web site. (We know of one greedy dealer who is adding a markup) We were on a list for about 2 months but within days of getting the call for the car we bought, another dealer called with a #2 package. WE saw it on his lot for a couple of days. We had put a $500 deposit at the dealer we purchased from, but no deposit at the other dealer in Columbia about 25 mi. away.

HOWEVER, no one had a Prius we could test drive. We bought the car without having driven one. But being a Toyota family with a 2008 Corolla, (a 2004 Camry we sold) a 2006 Sienna and a 2005 Sequoia, we trusted it would be what we wanted. It was- we think it drives a lot like a mix between the Camry and the Corolla, as far as handling.

I would not worry about test driving it, if that is what is keeping you from getting one. My 6'4" nephew drove it last night and said it felt very comfortable. He has a CIVIC and said the Prius was much more comfortable, much quieter and a smoother ride. In short, he was blown away...
