There is absolutely nothing anywhere in any reputable forum that suggests anything like a 45 minute wait to rescue a person in a hybrid or "touch the vehicle". First of all, if the risk of electrical shock were that great they'd teach you how to ground the vehicle.
Second, the battery is designed to disconnect in an accident.
Third, the procedure to manually disconnect is very simple and you should have learned that.
Fourth, when cutting through a vehicle you rarely, if ever, cut through the floor of the vehicle or the engine compartment.
Fifth, if you do have to cut through those areas you simply avoid the areas where the blaze orange cables run (some vehicles they're bright purple, but most are orange), then don't cut them.

There've been numerous accidents with Prii, some very severe...there've been ZERO reports of any rescue personel injured during these accidents...that's because they're very safe. If you're worried about anything in particular...watch out for that big tank of gasoline.

BTW, your trolling titer is getting pretty high...just about to my threshold.
Typical response from someone that knows nothing of the fire/ems profession.

Have you ever cut a car apart? Or have you ever had to work with one involved in a accident?

If you had you would know that not everything is a perfect world and that in serious accidents gaining access to the hood or trunk without cutting beforehand is impossible in some cases. You would also know that in severe crashes vehicle parts tend to shift and relocate from there original positions.

You would also know that the toyota ERG book is no more than a guideline to a PROPERLY TRAINED fire/ems worker.

Properly trained workers are required to follow guidelines as presented by USDOT NFPA and their state. Not following said guidelines could cost them their licenses.

The reason we have to follow said guidelines is its far easier to establish a set of guidelines that works across the board for every vehicle than it is to learn a set of guidelines specific to every hybrid model out there.

If you had any training in Fire/EMS you would know that your personal safety comes first. The person you are rescuing is second

Just curious: Is your main goal 1) to discredit Efusco (who knows a little bit more about fire/EMS than you think), 2) to continue the drivel your friend started here and in the thread you quoted from, or 3) simply to bait and troll? Judging from your tone here and in your other posts, I suspect #3, which, assuming you really are a member of the fire/EMS profession, embarrasses me as another member.

Why does this thread start with a quotation? Is this a continuation of an older closed thread, one that the OP couldn't let go of?

EVERYTHING you say here has been discussed repeatedly here over the past 40 hours.

So you want to start on a blank chalkboard, just because you are too lazy to go read up?

The others were too lazy or flighty to participate in a constructively dialog. If you are different, then here are some of the posts that still need useful replies:
Prius Myths - documentation please?
Prius Myths - Neither USDOT or NFPA promulgates rules that govern responders.

This information came directly from links provided by supposed EMS folks on the Powerstroke site, who promptly tried to discredit it:

This was a quote from another thread in which this topic was, well... off topic.
So I am glad this was moved off into it's own thread so it could be discussed on it's own merits (which seem to be almost none).
How about some facts. For example, a link to the guidelines for EMS training that refer to hybrids?
Also, in this training, are there any precautions taken for dealing with the standard battery all cars carry, the fuel tank or other dangerous areas of the vehicle?

Troll activity has been high the last couple of days. Are we having sunspots or something?

Jimbo I am truly a member of the fire ems profession. Your lack of knowledge on training makes me wonder about you.

You are right the NFPA standard is not in writing as of yet. But will be updated next year.

If it isn't in writing, it doesn't exist.

Now, what about the USDOT that you've talked about?
