Smile New Prius Owner

Hello All:

I just picked up my new (2008) Prius yesterday.
A friend of mine, told me to check out this site and also
to put more air in my tires (recommended at least 42/40).
My tires are Goodyear Integrity's, and I was concerned that with air
expansion from the now warm weather, would this be the ideal PSI Ratio.
Or, am I asking for trouble!
Please advise on this issue, and any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

GPG

Just picked up mine last Week from Prestige Ramsey. Have not looked at the Tire Press. I would set it up acording to the Book.
I was talking to another Prius yesterday at stop light near Woodbury Com.
He had 20k Miles on his and is getting around 50 MPG So far Im in the same range.
Good Luck

Hi gpg and welcome To PC. You have a smart friend. He is indeed right on with encouraging you to up the tire pressure. Anything up to max sidewall (probably 44psi) is perfectly safe and will increase both your mpg and your tire life. What you may sacrifice is a soft ride, and that is what the tire pressure recommended on the door jamb will give you. The lower the tire pressure, the more the sidewalls of the tire will flex, and that is what causes tires to heat up. If you do a site search for tire pressure you will see many posts from owners whose tires have worn out earlier than they should have because they ran them at 35/33. Always keep the front 2 psi higher than the rear to support the weight of the engine and ensure proper handling.

And welcome to you too rayb. There's lots of great info and helpful people here. Congratulations on your new drives!
