Friends: 0 |  Hello, I am just starting to look into buying my wife a new car.I will be the one driving it to work each day, I live in se Portland and work in Beaverton. I have heard in the past that if you drive on the freeway and over 35mph that you run off gas not electric.Is this true? I want to make sure that with the gas prices going up if it is worth selling are Camary and getting the Prius? Would I be saving enough to do the switch to electric. Friends: 60 |  The Prius is more fuel efficient than the Camry in any case. I don't know your route, but the Prius will get better milage to way-better milage. I loved my Camry, but I traded it for a Prius in 2005. Or you could get the Camry Hybrid. Not as good MPG as the Prius, but better than the regular Camry and just as nice inside. Yes, the engine will be used but it is a 1.5 litre engine so it is going to sip fuel in addition to the high final gear ratio (CVT allows it to have that) and an aerodynamic shape (Cd = 0.26). Someone here noted that with a scangauge, the Prius was turning over at 1,800-2,000rpm at 65mph. |

Friends: 10 | Read through the postings on this forum and you can get all sorts of information on how the Prius works. In short, though, remember that all of the energy used by the Prius comes from the gas engine, so don't get overly concerned about when it is running electric only, and when the gas engine is supplying power. Just think of it as a very, very efficient gas powered car. Tom |
