From their web site:

Retail price $108,000. This is the car that has been designed and built to showcase the potential of Commuter Cars' products. It is being sold as a mostly-assembled kit (less than a day to complete) in order to avoid the time and cost of a fully certified vehicle.[/b]

So it is not "fully certified." They say they merely want to avoid the time and cost. They say it's safer than a conventional car. But talk is cheap. It looks like a great idea. But I think I'll wait for some real-world safety info.

They also plan less-expensive versions, with lesser specs, but these have "not been designed yet as it will require a team of engineers, tens of millions of dollars, and at least 18 months to meet all of the safety requirements."
