Default Consumer Reports reviewed 5 small cars: not surprisingly the Chevy Aveo did poorly and got 26 mpg

I figured I'd mention it since moron/shill Art Spinella/CNW and others who cite that garbage usually bring up the Chevy Aveo.

Consumer Reports in the March 09 issue reviewed 5 small cars: the Honda Fit, Suzuki SX4, Nissan Versa, Toyota Yaris and Chevy Aveo. The Aveo (w/automatic) not surprisingly was dead last in their overall road-test score by quite a bit.

They said:
"Highs: Turning circle.

Lows: Handling, acceleration, ride, noise, seat comfort, fuel economy (for class), fit and finish, no ESC"

Some quotes:
"Despite recent updates, the South Korean-built Aveo remains unpleasant, outdated, and overpriced for what you get. Besides its tight turning circle there's not much good to say about it. It's not even fuel efficient.
...

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Acceleration is slow, the engine is rough and noisy, handling is clumsy, and the ride is jumpy. Fuel economy is lousy for the class, and on top of all that, reliability has been below average. A nervous ride is easily upset by uneven pavement and is unsettled even on a smooth highway. Road, wind, and engine noise further degrade the driving experience in the Aveo. Handling is clumsy, and the body rolls and pitches when pushed to its limits. But it was secure in our avoidance maneuver and posted a decent speed through the course. The 106-horsepower, 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine is anemic, and the four-speed automatic transmission isn't very responsive. Average fuel economy of 26 mpg won't impress anyone....

INSIDE THE CABIN
The interior is cramped and ill finished. The trim looks pretty good at first glance, but closer examination reveals uneven panel gaps, hard plastics, and flimsy switchgear...

RELIABILITY
We expect reliability to be worse than average, according to our latest subscriber survey."

They got 18 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, 26 mpg overall.

The most economical cars from their mileage testing in the review were:
Fit manual: 24/37, 33 overall
Yaris: 22/38, 30 mpg overall
Fit auto: 21/39, 30 mpg overall

You can see what CR got w/the Prius at Most fuel-efficient cars.

The 08 Aveo automatic they reviewed got 25 mpg overall and the 04 manual Aveo got 27 mpg. They sure get the "same" or are within "spitting distance" of Prius mileage, NOT!
