Friends: 0 | It is a developing story seems.. California Highway Patrol officers say their patrol cars acted as brakes for a Toyota Prius with a stuck accelerator Monday. The car, headed eastbound on Interstate 8, was going at high rates of speed because the driver reported that the accelerator was stuck. The patrol car moved in front of the Prius and engaged its brakes to bring the Prius to a stop, according to CHP. The car eventually stopped on the highway near the La Posta Bridge in the area of the Golden Acorn Casino. Check back for more details on this developing story. Friends: 6 | The driver should be cited for dangerous driving. There are several things to do in this case. Here are two. 1) Select Neutal 2) Push and hold the Start Button for 3-5 seconds It sounds to me like it is a way to get out of a speeding ticket. The accelerator was stuck, Yea right. Friends: 0 | It all seems a bit fishy to me, when do you ever see the highway patrol around when you need them? Those crazy speeders cutting you off and tailgating. Wouldn't have even made a blip on the screen except that the sensational news is looking for more mud to sling on Toyota... JMHO |

Friends: 0 | My 2006 Prius has a brake override. Unless there was a malfunction, this would not have happened. If there was a malfunction, this needs to be diagnosed. If this is bogus, THAT needs to be reported, also. It would be a mistake to ignore this. |

Friends: 0 | I doubted that Toyota will look at this! They had a very bad record of how to turn those news to their own advantage. |

Friends: 0 | Channel 39 (NBC here in San Diego) just ran a tease about the CHP stopping a runaway Prius. The showed a 2004-2009 Blue Prius up against the back of a CHP patrol Car. Details to follow. |

Friends: 31 | Let's wait until we get the facts and data. One report claims the driver could not turn off the car nor shift into "N". Found this: http://cad.chp.ca.gov/ Quote:

Friends: 24 | Obviously his brakes failed too . . . because even if the gas pedal is all the way to the floor ... slamming on the brakes will still cause the tires to skid (or maybe that's only in MY car?) . . . unless there's a beer bottle etc under the brake pedal. Ok ok ... I'll be a gullible sap & give the story teller the benefit of the doubt, for now. . |
