Toyota Hybrids Sales more than Total Sales of Individual Companies!

Last week, car makers announced May 2006 sales. Buried in the data was an intriguing development that most news reports missed: The Toyota line of "Hybrid Synergy Drive" vehicles is now one of the best selling automobile brands in the United States.

Toyota has four hybrid models with significant sales, i.e. monthly sales over 2000 units: the Prius and Camry sedans, and Highlander and RX400h SUV's. Together, these four models sold nearly 17,000 units in May, more than the total monthly sales of some very well-known brands:

That is awesome...I think it truely marks a milestone for the HSD technolgy.

More than Subaru and VW ! I would have never thought that could happen! The others in the US OK I can deal but not the first two.

Not to question your figures, but I question your figures...

A quick google showed VW sold slightly north of 20K cars in May '06 in the US.

It is true that they sold 16,297 in May.. but in May '05.

<shrug> Question them if you must cause they aren't MY figures lol. I'm just the messenger but again, it's good to have people like you to double check and not blindly post like I did.

If you add 294 Lexus GS 450h, the Toyota total was 17,190.
(Lexus RX 400h was already included in the original 16,896 number.)

if you add up the AutoChannels sales figures it comes out to 20,455 not the 22,100 that they quote. I'd like to see VW's auditor's figures. This is a game all the manufactures play. Do these figures take into account all the "house" sales, IE: sell to leasing companies etc. Most house accounts don't show in retail sales figures.
