DESIGNING the car in America is what makes it of lower quality... there are plenty of high quality Japanese-designed vehicles that are manufactured n the United States. Now if they started to let some crackpot engineers in Detroit redesign the camry or other cars, then they would all have their tyres fall off or engines blow up or or the seats fly out the windows at highway speeds... |

My Car: 2007 Prius Package: Base Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | I think it is a fair question, the original poster wants to know if the 2009 Prius will be assembled in the USA instead of Japan. I believe cars made in Japan vs. the USA *are* better quality and less likely to have trouble. Not to say USA assembled cars are bad, but Japan assembled cars are more likely to be assembled without defects vs. USA. This was one thing that impressed my wife and I about the Prius, was that it was 100% Japanese made. You can see the same thing with electonics. When most Japanese companies went to off shore assembly plants in 2001, quality took a nose dive. Our Japanese made VCR is still working perfectly after 6 years of use, whereas my father has bought three Malaysia and Philippines made VCRs of the same brand in the same time period. Japanese people care about quality of work more than anywhere else in the world. They really want to do a good job. Dave |

Gee....umm... will the Prius still be made in Japan or will it suck... Why not ask "will the Prius ALSO be made in the US" Don't feed the trolls, unless they are pancakes (Fred's). Than go ahead and have fun. |

The Accord is built in Maryland and the Camry in Kentucky. I have noticed a difference between our Japanese built 02 Camry and my friend's American built 04 Camry. | |

My Car: Other Non-Hybrid Package: Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | I have now owned two american cars in a row 1998 and 2004 Ford Mustangs and the 1997 had ZERO defects in 6 years of ownership and the 2004 has had one defect <passenger window problem> possibly caused by a fender bender. I have done nothing but oil, tire, brake pad and a battery change <the 1997 in 2003>. Two Family Chrysler mini vans have had similar quality though had two recalls on them <delt with at routine maintence>. My next car will be a hybrid and will most probobly be a Prius or Camry due to there being no real choices in American hybrid sedans. I would seek out an American built Camry hybrid or Prius if one was available but it would not be a deal breaker if it was built overseas. |
