No gas in GM's car of the future

It may be late to the game, but the maker of Hummer vehicles says it wants to become the global leader when it comes to green cars.

And General Motors Corp. recognizes that means squaring off against the early leader and maker of the Prius hybrid vehicle, Toyota Motor Corp.

“We need to transition to vehicles that have little or no fossil fuels,” Robert Lutz, GM's vice chairman of product development, told the Globe and Mail's editorial board. “The only solution is the reinvention of the automobile and basically converting to electric drive.”[/b]

Maybe, and I mean just MAYBE, when he asks forgiveness for lieing about why they crushed their first good car in decades (ev1), only then might anyone in their right mind even bother listening to him. If GM does not make changes quick, the only GM cars that will have no gas are the ones in the junk yards being used for scrap metal.

When GM can get an electric car below $25,000. Call me silly, but I would be serious enough to investigate it more. Don't see this in the near future.

Right now, I agree, lots of BS.

I do not mock the theory. I mock the man and the corporation. Check out Darrell's story. A company builds an electric car that they will only rent, not sell. They then collect the cars at the end of the lease and destroy them. Now the company says the electric car is the future and we'll have one in a few years. How much money, time, and goodwill do you think they already pissed away? Where was the Board of Directors then?

Electric cars aren't new. DC saw electric taxis 100 years ago. Cheap gasoline and primitive technology hampered that line of development. In the end Lutz may be correct. We may all be driving electric Toyotas.
