ok i was reading this, and it sounds kinda funny to me
especially the part about how the prius has no torque, "which is the force that lets you accelerate quickly."

It's apparent that the reviewer is just looking (not very closely) at stats on various cars and hasn't actually driven a Prius enough (if at all) to determine that what he's saying is bogus.

The review also states that a high horsepower to weight ratio makes a car slower, so they obviously have no idea what they're talking about.

I think he must love to write "typical midsize hatchback", I mean seriously I think I learned how to use alternative words in a report no later then maybe 5th grade.

Pretty obvious to me how this report was generated:

The reporter assigned to do the report was lazy and gave it to his teenager to do, with only a spec-sheet to go by. The teen has never seen a Prius, let alone drive one. Also, there were some words in the spec-sheet she was unfamiliar with...

The average midsize hatchback packs quite a wallop compared to the Toyota Prius when it comes to torque, which is the force that lets you accelerate quickly.

What a maroon.

No mention of the electric traction motor, which supplies plenty of torque, and does not need high rpm's to do so. Failure to even mention the electric traction motor proves a complete lack of understanding of how a Prius works.

The review is a bad joke.

Nigel Cooper of Topanga California is an idiot. The information he gives is only as good as it's source. Get real.

That website made me feel stupider by the minute. I could have made a review like that one just by looking at the specs for all cars listed on edmunds.com.

My guess is they did a generic Prius bash and then did a "find/change" for the cars on this list. More teenage laziness.

Oh, oh, read the malibu and the fit. Both seem to be superior to the Prius.

It's a hoot. According to this the Prius does have more torque than a Malibu. They are careful not to mention the mileage. You apparently only have to go to the gas station more often in the Malibu because the gas tank is larger. Uh...huh?

"The Prius is likely to feel a bit sluggish because of its high horsepower-to-weight ratio compared to the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Chevrolet than the Prius because of its larger tank."

"The Toyota Prius packs quite a punch compared to the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx with respect to torque, which is the force that lets you accelerate quickly."

"The Honda Fit packs quite a punch compared to the Toyota Prius as far as torque, which is the force that lets you accelerate quickly. Torque equals pickup, and the Honda will have picked up and gone by the time the Toyota Prius finally gets moving."

So...it has more torque or less torque...or a Honda Fit is better than a Malibu? Well, it probably is. (Where's Malorn?)

" In terms of MSRP, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx costs roughly as much as the Toyota Prius (though the Toyota Prius is slightly cheaper)"

Okay, so are they roughly the same or is the Prius cheaper?

"The Honda Fit's tank is about the same size as the Toyota Prius's, though the Toyota's is a little bigger."

So they're roughly the same or the Prius is bigger? What?

All I read the fit and the malibu and both reviews are absolutely awful. More like junior high bad research and writing. Needs to show significant improvement to pass the High School Exit Exam.
