My Car: Package: | A Taxi cab soon to be owner of a brand new Prius has sent me an email and he is going to use it with the new Hybrid taxi medallion coming up as the cleanest taxi in S.F.. The new law should be enacting soon. Read on: *** PRESS RELEASE *** MAYOR NEWSOM URGES TAXI COMMISSION TO APPROVE RESOLUTION REQUIRING TAXI EMISSIONS TO BE REDUCED BY 50% OVER NEXT 4 YEARS Resolution would set guidelines to gradually reduce, offset, and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions in taxis by 2020 Plan complements pledge made by Mayor Newsom in his 2006 State of the City Address, provides mandate for cab companies to convert fleets SAN FRANCISCO, CA– Flanked by several hybrid taxicabs, Mayor Newsom today urged the City’s Taxi Commission to approve a resolution that gradually reduces, offsets, and eliminates greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in taxis by 2020.In his 2006 State of the City Address, Mayor Newsom pledged to convert 100% of San Francisco taxis to hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles by 2011. This resolution would provide the mandate to help achieve that goal and take it even further. The resolution specifically requires the San Francisco taxi industry to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from current levels and 20% from 1990 levels by 2011. Recent estimates show that converting the City’s taxi fleet to hybrid or compressed natural gas vehicles is expected to reduce taxi emissions between 30-60%. Even with a 20% reduction of greenhouse gases from 1990 levels, the San Francisco taxi fleet will still produce over 30,000 tons of GHG per year. Therefore, the resolution calls for investments in renewable energy or efficiency as well, which provide a mechanism for the taxi industry to significantly offset its GHG emissions.

My Car: 2004 Prius Package: #6 | The thread title says "San Francisco Taxis soon to become all Hybrid !" But the article merely says that the mayor is pushing for a resolution that would require taxis to reduce emissions. The thread title should have been: "San Francisco might consider a resolution which, if passed, would increase the likelihood of finding a hybrid taxi in the city." Or: "S.F. Mayor urges cleaner taxis." Let's have thread titles which give at least some idea of what the topic is about. |

My Car: 2004 Prius Package: Base | But Daniel, will all of that fit in the title? San Francisco Taxis soon to become all Hybrid ! San Francisco might consider a resolution which, if passed, would increase the likelihood of finding a hybrid taxi in the city I don't think so. Also it got you to look. |

This is really what the article was about. Hybrids were mentioned merely as one possible way of working toward the goal. CNG taxis were also mentioned, so the "all hybrid" in the thread title is not only misleading, it is false.

My Car: 2007 Prius Package: #2 | New York has taken the lead on this: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/23/nyregion/23taxi.html Although taxis won't be required to be hybrids, there will be pressure to use hybrids based on mileage requirements. Hybrid buses would definitely help, too. Harry |

Misleading? wanted only to disseminate and news, to PC that's all.. Here is the email I received from soon to be Hybrid taxi owner. I guess he is seeking Hybrid vehicle ownership instead of other Alt fuel. Hello C.Rickey I saw your post on craig's list and priusonline and wanted to make sure you knew that new taxi medallions issued in San Francisco must be Hybrid or Alt fuel taxis. I would recommend contacting cab companies in San Francisco and, as I am soon to receive a taxi medallion, would like to be kept abreast of bargains in a prius or camry hybrid. Thank You, Austin Last edited by C.RICKEY HIROSE; 02-02-2008 at 03:48 PM.
