I hope to start selling the Li system in August. It will have several features Hymotion does not have like: 1. You keep your spare tire. 2. Three mode operation: stock Prius, Toyota EV (32 mph) and PIS EV (52 mph max). 3. Open source.
What about warranty? DIY implies none I guess?

Two good points/questions.

I hope that the "Official" Toyota version avoids the stop/reboot thing. I would think.

I believe the battery life should be counted by number of charge/discharge cycles.
Following is the battery life and cost data on the original Prius+ project in 2005.

PbA battery pack cost: $700
Approx. lifetime cycles: 200
Approx. pure EV miles/cycle: 10
Approx. $/EV-mile: $0.35/mile

add comment: Prius runs $0.10/mile using $4.00/gallon at 40 mpg.

I am wondering if 123 is a little too late with their release and they should concentrate on making a pitch to Toyota to buy their batteries.
If GM is courting 123, you can be sure that part their contracts are covenants not to sell to any one else.

If using 52 mph ev is going to require a reboot, they should put on the thermistor hack so you don't have to go through s1 on restart. If you have to go through the most fuel inefficient part of prius operation it loses a bit of the benefits of above 34 EV.

If you start of in this mode, then you would not have gone through S1 in the first place.

Has anyone actually gone with this kit? I'm interested in getting one sent to the UK - but would obviously have to change the charger and plug!

Nikki.

That is the speed that the Prius tops out at in the gas out mode.

As someone else posted, if there was a concern about having the car go through the warm up process during restart, just put it into EV mode before the warm up starts. This does work, as long as the battery is not to low.

I found this about A123, seems they had quite the issue.
