Sadly Honda continues to rest on laurels. They had forever to come with a class leading Insight and decide to bring one with worst tech and MPG than the old 6 year old Prius. They do this b/c they know people will buy b/c "its a HOnda".

I don't buy the cheap car for a minute. Hondas are not cheap, nor Toyotas. They cost more than the competition.

People waited a long time to see what Honda would do outside and they hit a single. The only reason to get it over a Civic Hybrid is for the hatch area.

I was really expecting something extraordinary from Honda. Instead, I got that from FORD with their Fusion.

Kinda ironic, huh? But at least the Insight is still a decent set of kit so it's not like people will be turned away from hybrid technology after their experience with an Insight. That's ok, it'll be used as a stepping stone to other hybrid models like the Prius, Fusion, TCH and then onward to the HS and RXh as the owner progresses through life.

The FIT (A.K.A. Jazz) is available with a CVT as well as lower ICE displacements in other markets. Once again, North American habits appear to be the reason behind the absence of additional options...

Ok I thought he was talking about the NA version.

Nah, it's just resistance to CVTs. Nissan is the only one so far that's brave enough.

I, as a happy '10 Prius owner, agree w/ you about the Fusion. I test drove one (hybrid), and it's a great, solid, nice-performing, comfortable car w/ excellent FE. Hats off to Ford. I wound up w/ the Prius for (a) cargo room and (b) cost (in that order--all the FFHs around here had every option available, costing around $32K, allegedly with no movement on the price). But the Fusion--and I gather from others it isn't just the hybrid--is a *nice* car. Ford would definitely be on my list for new cars, depending on what I needed.

I have to admit the Ford Fusion Hybrid was a nice car to test drive as well.

My concern was that Ford was up and coming in the Hybrid world, and although they are doing much better than some of the competition, Toyota had the long run dependability of the Prius Model.

I think Ford is doing a great job, and it's a good car to consider when compared to the Prius. But think in time we as Prius lovers will have more to choose from, even in our own backyard!

I'm confused, are they comparing the two because they are hybrids? They are not in the same car class, and that's why I'm confused. You would expect the smaller car to get better MPG, but from my experience with the Prius, the Insight cant compare. I averaged 51 MPG summer, 48 Winter in it over 24000 miles. That is calculating by hand, not the MFD. The Prius was too small for my use, the Insight would be even less. So why the comparison? That would be like comparing my Fusion with a Civic.

Probably because they're both dedicated hybrids and the Insight shared the name with the former car that competed with the Prius (before they went their separate ways).
