While I can't address the all weather mats specifically, the little protrusions on the back of the factory mats grip like hell. Hook or no, they aren't sliding. I have trouble hooking and unhooking the mats every time as a result.

This still looks like an "every vehicle from every manufacturer" issue to me...if it is actually an issue at all. One sensational screw up by a CHP officer and it all gets blown out of proportion.

I agree with all who seem to believe it's the "people" -- in quotes here because the word, generally, is supposed to differentiate from "animals" and, generally, suggests intelligence -- who should be recalled; not the mats.

More specifically, I know full-well what Shawn Clark is talking about. My wife had expressed some concern when I first told her about the recall, so I decided to show her what it was all about. It took me about two minutes to get the darned thing UN-hooked! Then, the "little protrusions" on the back made me spend ANOTHER minute trying to get the darned thing to slide forward! Even TRYING to muck-it-up, I could NOT get the mat to interfere with the pedal in any way!

I certainly don't know what caused that horrific crash in California, but I genuinely can NOT understand how the floor-mat could have been the culprit; certainly not if it had been properly installed / hooked since, as suggested in my remarks just above, even WITHOUT my mat being hooked, I could not slide it forward far enough to get it in a position that would potentially interfere with the pedal movement ....

For those of you that are visual learners ... and for those of you that are only visual learners (laughing), here is a photo for you:

Can you see how the accelerator can get stuck under the floor mat?

The recall list that I saw diid NOt include the 2010 Prius, so why would they stop the sale of the AW mats for the 2010? Has the list been changed? Are the 2010's now under the recall?

After an good soaking with 16 ounces of triple shot, decaf, no fat, no whip mocha on my driver's side stnd floor mat; and with the resulting, impossible to completely remove stain; I bought my all weather, Toyota issue, rubber (?) floor mats exactly ONE DAY prior to the recall.

Seems to me it is impossible for these mats to somehow ride up over the accelerator, because two "clips" and a whole slew of rubber "spikes" on the bottom side make sure these mats don't move.

On the other hand, just to be extra safe, I suppose I could get my nail gun and drive a hundred or so galvanized nails through the mat into the flooring below. Some zip ties, some Gorilla Glue.. voila! No slippage!

But that would be almost as stupid as not using the standard clips when installing the rubber mats, eh? Which is how this whole mess started, IMO. Some people shouldn't have kids, I'm just sayin'.

I think this is another example of "hot coffee in my lap = $Zillions" idiocy. I'm keeping my new mats, I'm not worried, AND if somehow the mat jams the accelerator, I will reach down with my left hand, rip the mat completely off the floor, and sue Starbucks (whose $4.00 cup of coffee started my whole dilemma).

I have the same issue. The OEM Toyota mats alreay have a a huge wear mark and will tear shortly.

The 2010 Toyota weather mats are a bad design. If your shoes are wet the water runs across the mat on to the cars carpeting. Most weather mats have a border to hold the water.

I ordered WeatherTech mats today. I wasted my money on the Toyota mats.

Somehow we seem to have drifted away from this stubborn principal of logic!!!

I forgot to metion the mats and car are only 3 months old with 9,000 miles and they already show major wear. My 10 year old Toyota OEM 4Runner mats are in perfect shape. I put 305,000 miles on those and they look new.

The OEM mats do have a 1 year warranty on them, BTW. 3 years/36k miles if you bought them with your car. Might be worth holding onto them and taking them back to the dealership when they can start selling them again.
