Friends: 3 | New fuel-miser Ford knocks Prius off its perch RICHARD BLACKBURN October 16, 2009 The Toyota Prius hybrid is no longer Australia’s most fuel-efficient car. The car, which has held the mantle since its local launch in 2001, has been knocked off its green perch by a fuel-sipping diesel small car from Ford. The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic model uses just 3.7 litres of fuel per 100km in official tests, shading the Toyota by 0.2 litres per 100km. New fuel-miser Ford knocks Prius off its perch |

Friends: 20 | The comments are hilarious and recalls my favorite joke:
And the "hybrid" part of the "New Ford hybrid ..." is what? Bob Wilson Last edited by bwilson4web; 10-19-2009 at 09:09 AM. |

Friends: 0 | This new Ford is has great specs, and I am sure it will sell well. Its not in the same class as the Prius so the comparison is quite pointless. If anything it shows how good the Prius tech is, to get nearly the same MPG out of gas as they do with diesel on a much smaller car. |

Friends: 0 | And let me point out one other thing: the Ford is NOT a hybrid, so the whole title of this thread is misleading. Tom |

Friends: 33 | Cool, so ford have released a Yaris size car which gets better fuel consumption than a focus size car, good for them, they must be very proud. Imagine what they could do if they actually tried. 16.88kg/kW Fiesta 14.20kg/kW Prius One of these cars is slower than the other, can you guess which? But hey, for the price it sounds like a good thing. Going to be hard to sell when you can get a Hyundai i30 for less money and it is a bigger, better car, but hey, that's fine. Another car Ford Will expect to sell because "my husband drives a ford". Any ford with the indicator stalk on the left should be avoided in Australia, a well known rule. |

Friends: 4 | What are the pollution specs for the Ford ? As an aside, the fuel economy and CO2 ratings don't quite match up. If the Ford is about 5.7% (3.7/3.5) more fuel economical than the Prius, then the Ford should emit about 5.6% more CO2/km, given diesel's ~12% greater CO2 density. But the Ford emits 10% more CO2 (98/89). Or in terms of energy, the Ford's results are even less complimentary, since diesel has 20% more energy/volume than petrol, yet the Ford only managed 6% less volume consumption. Much smaller and lighter car, much less powerful engine, yet 14% more energy consumption/distance than a Prius. <shrug> So a tech marvel it isn't, but a strong market contender it may well be. Has anyone here driven the car ? Last edited by SageBrush; 10-19-2009 at 03:37 PM. |
