I don't think everyone under 30 want's rounded fenders, no ground clearance, and the ability to go from 0-60 in less than 8 seconds. I saw old and young in the first generation xB. They might of been purchasing for different reasons but they were both purchasing. I work with younger people, so I know there is more in common between a 25 year old and a 40 something than either party would probably want to admit.
It's funny you mention the youthful look, because a lot of people who do work on their cars to look like something out of F&F preferred the original Xb. Why? It had actual JDM street cred - it was the bb in Japan (
Toyota_bB Toyota_bB
). The new Xb is not based on the bB (according to wikipedia)

most people from gen Y don't have enough money to buy one yet. This article is saying in the future we will redefine the industry.

However I will concur with your sputnik generation as the most likely to have bought a hybrid first
I'm only 22, born in 1986, and I already bought my own Prius over 3 months ago now. The total was $21.7k, and I put $10k down. And I don't even have a (real) job yet. After I recently earned my B.S., I went straight to grad school, where I am now working on my PhD. Most young people are just totally irresponsible. They couldn't keep a buck in their savings to save their life.

I think Generation Y will love cars like the Prius very much. Cheap to own (including gas ), and tons of cool gadgets, which just add to our very tech lifestyle.

I'm 22 and own a 2010 Prius. The bulk of it was a gift from my grandmother but the rest is out of my pocket--though I agree, I don't know anyone else my age who would be able to afford one on their own (myself included).
