Honda Insight versus Toyota Prius: There's No Comparison | Car News Blog at Motor Trend

I’m now nearing the end of a week’s worth of commuting, errands-running, and generally living with Honda’s new 2010 Insight hybrid (our Clear Sky Blue metallic long-term test car). And frankly I’m shocked—and not by the car’s electric motor. This is the most disappointing Honda product I’ve ever driven.

The 2010 Toyota Prius is a wonder of technology—extraordinarily efficient, roomy, finely crafted, quiet, and refined. I can’t think of one area—other than initial purchase price—where the Insight has an advantage. In fact, I’d say the Insight isn’t any competition at all.

Honda can do better than this—and needs to. Meantime, I’ve put my money where my mouth is. I now own a 2010 Toyota Prius.

I have driven both the '10 Insight & Prius.....Definite night & day. Would put more $ into a Prius any day than to buy/drive the Insight.

I found the usual VW fanboy comments to be funny like:
"Everyone in the car world loves the Jetta TDI and typically recommends it over the Prius. I'm assuming you cross shopped, so I'm just wondering, what did you like about the Prius over the TDI?"

Well, actually there is a bit. Motor Trend's official review, linked in the blog, gave the Insight first place. However, if you read the article, the Prius excels in just about every category except initial purchase price. They didn't do a Total Cost of Ownership evaluation.

The comments continue to accumulate including a pickup advocate. It probably makes sense to add supporting comments there versus here where we're 'preaching to the choir.'
