My first advice is to ask your dealer to hold the car until January of 2006. This will give you a tremendous tax credit compared to the current tax deduction.

I hear ya there...however, just the first 60,000 cars will get that super tax credit and we may not be one of them on that list. Kinda like play the lottery on this one. Thanx for the feedback.

Not quite.
100% of the tax credit will be in force for at least the first 2 quarters of 2006.
After that it phases out.

More information in the following thread:

From the Tax Credit Phaseout Period, from text of Energy Policy Act of 2005
thread:
If 60k cars are sold by sometime in the first quarter of 2006, the tax credit will follow the following schedule:

(2006Q1) - 100%
(2006Q2) - 100%
(2006Q3) - 50%
(2006Q4) - 50%
(2007Q1) - 25%
(2007Q2) - 25%

If the 60k threshhold is reached sometime in the second quarter of 2006, the tax credit will follow the following schedule:
(2006Q1) - 100%
(2006Q2) - 100%
(2006Q3) - 100%
(2006Q4) - 50%
(2007Q1) - 50%
(2007Q2) - 25%
(2007Q3) - 25%

I believe the quarters start on January 01, April 01, July 01, and September 01.

Since your getting it this late in the game.. for 450.00 more and better resale later, you may want to consider the 2006 and study its improvements. You can use the link at the top of the page in red that says 2006 prius info. http://priuschat.com/2006_toyota_prius.html

It may be worth spending a few hours digging in the forum to make a good decision... the 2005 is good, but the 2006 is better.... there is specualation as to the quality of the monitor being upgraded too: Here is a nice thread to read... not sure yet what the real answer is..... http://priuschat.com/Prius-Display-Screen-...ity-t12434.html

Well try to help as much as we can....
