I was wondering whether anyone knew for sure whether this would or would not work:

1) Put a deposit down now on a 2005 Prius that still exists at my local dealer
2) Wait to take ownership / pay until Jan 2, 2006
3) Qualify for the 2006 tax credit, which is much more valuable than the 2005 tax deduction, but without having to wait until Feb / March to get a 2006 model given how late I am ordering.

Anyone know if this would work? I'm planning on purchasing one of these today or tomorrow, depending on the responses.

Thanks in advance,
Orin

Yes. This will work.
Model year is not relevent.
The 2005 Prius is a qualified hybrid vehicle for purposes of the tax credit.
Good luck.
