Congrats HyDee on your new car!

Galaxee, I wholeheartedly agree but you've read my posts and my responses were a result of, not me asking them to do anything. But yeah, people like your DH and rick57 are rare and should be given recognition.

I think some of this angst with service techs could be helped along with more personal interaction... I know at most dealerships now adays you speak with a service consultant basicly a service sales person and the person who works on your car remains a faceless pawn of the dealership. I miss the days when I had a real mechanic who looked at my car, spoke with me and wrote up my bill (he was a great guy but retired a few years ago). I think more interaction would allow people to draw more accurate conclusions and feel confident in their tech. I know thanks to Prius chat I met Rick57 who is a tech in my area and I know that if I have any issues or need service beyond a simple oil change I will be headed across town to his dealership.

It is hard to place faith in someone you never see, and that is a sad fact since I am sure many if not the large majority of techs are quite qualified to service your cars and keep us happily in a well working Prius.

[you made very good points Galaxee]

Thanks,

yeah, lots of places keep the techs away. however, toyota has stated that you have a right to talk to your tech whether the dealer agrees or not is another story. it just means it's time to change dealers.

that said, a good tech will also have no trouble coming out and talking to you about your car if you request.

tideland, i wasn't calling anyone out at all. i hope you understand that. i'm just saying that some people get sucked into paranoia by the things that they read about and insist that they get done, etc, and that it is a downside of having this kind of forum out there. as far as the techs around here, really they're just trying to help you walk into the shop feeling more confident with at least an idea of what might be wrong. it's still up to the guy who gets your car in his bay to decide what's happening.

i'm not sure if that addresses what you were saying, but i wasn't trying to offend anyone.
