Default Puzzling happenings on the day my Prius should arrive

Okay, today my Prius is supposed to arrive at the local Toyota dealer. I called my dealer and asked if it had come in, and he told me that they expected trucks coming in all day and that it could be 8 PM before it gets here. He told me that he'd call me as soon as it got there. About 10 minutes later, though, he called back and asked for my e-mail address. I gave it to him and was about to ask why he needed it when he said "okay, we're making some calls and checking some stuff out." Now I'm really wondering what's going on. Does anyone know why they would want my e-mail address? Am I being too paranoid?

Maybe he wants to announce the arrival of your car by sending you one of those silly animated GIFs. A chubby humanoid animal jumping up and down and waving its arms under a flashing "It's here!"

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that he's trying to get all his paperwork in order, part of which may involve having contacted you by email. When I logged onto one of those web based car search engines, I got emails immediately from the dealers listed. I think Toyota checks up on these guys to make sure they are responding to customers. Given that your ship is coming in, so to speak, it's a bit late for your dealer to be contacting you via email.
Try to relax. You've waited this long. By the time you read this you may already be oogling your new baby in your driveway, if you have a driveway.
Congrats and best wishes.
Cheers,
Bob

I too have had the dealer tell me that the car should be here on April 10th and they said "it will be on the premises". Well, it is now April 12th and still no car. I called my dealer and the salesperson says no car yet. I called Toyota Corporate and they tell me they can not track it after it leaves the ship. I then get a call from the dealer telling me that it will be in on the 20th of April. If it makes it that day( I am not to sure it will make it then either) I will have waited five months and three days. All I can say is that this is the longest I have waited for anything. It did not take this long to build my home from scratch! Puzzled is the way I feel too. Toyota knows nothing, the dealer knows nothing, and I know even less. I do know that there has to be a better way of delivering cars to customers. If Toyota wants us to be repeat customers they are going to have to come up with a better tracking system for their cars. This way is not working. All it does is create frustration and longing. Any other car I would have cancelled my order. Best regards JB

I called my dealer back at 7 PM since he hadn't called me back. He said that the car is still sitting at port in Florida and perhaps the inclement weather was what kept it from leaving. He said that hopefully it'll be in tomorrow. Now I have to wait another torturous 24 hours. This darn car better be worth it!

My car was handed over the freight company at the port in New Jersey and didn't arrive at the dealership (a 10 hour drive max) for a week and a half. I was upset, to say the least. In the end, everything worked out great.

Dude, that sucks. If my dealer wasn't sick of me calling every day asking if they'd found my Black Prius, he's really going to get sick of me calling 3 or 4 times a day trying to find out if it's arrived yet.

When I ordered mine I was told 12 weeks. A few days later I was told that 12 weeks would start counting 3 weeks later, when special orders could be sent in. But then I got a call less than 8 weeks after ordering, saying it was in port and I'd have it in 2 weeks. But 5 days (?) after that I got the call saying it was on the lot, and I'd have it in 2 days, once it was prepped. But the next day I got the final call, saying I could pick it up at my convenience. It was not convenient, but I dropped everything anyway and picked it up.

Smart dealer! (Corwin Toyota, Fargo, ND)

And yes, the car is worth waiting for.

Trust me, everybody at that dealership knew the sound of my voice. I now know more about the car dealership business than I ever wanted to. I got a detailed explanation of it from the general manager. I will say though that the dealership handled it very well and were very professional the entire time. I will definitely be buying my next car from them.
