Dear Dr. Gridlock:


I will be introducing a bill in the 2006 session of the Virginia General Assembly to extend the exemption for hybrid vehicles using the HOV lanes.

A bill I introduced several years ago put the current exemption in place.

Please encourage your readers to write to their delegates and senators asking them to vote for my bill.

I hope the legislature follows your advice that we extend the exemption and crack down on the cheaters.

As an update to all of those curious or interested in the VA HOV bill, it has passed both the House and the Senate (Not a single rep voted against it!) and is awaiting Kaine's signature. It will extend the HOV use for clean special fuel vehicles for another year, until July 1, 2008. If you want to look up the bill on the gov. website, it's number is in the low 2100s - I think in the 2130s, title HOV Exempt.

For you other VA drivers with the applicable Virginia Clean Special Fuel tags (required for solo HOV commuting) the bill has been approved by the Governor!

The VDOT website now shows the HOV exemption has been extended to June 30, 2008. http://www.virginiadot.org/news/newsreleas...p?ID=NOVA-07-13
