Empty tank, but can only fill 1/2 the way

I have noticed more than once when filling up my empty tank the pump shuts off (auto full stop) 1/2 to 3/4 of my tank being full. I have never had this happen with any other car. Does this have to do with the bladder system?

It's the fuel fill pipe. It's tight. Different gas stations (or different pumps at the same station) may be set to different sensitivity for the vaccuum-operated shut-off. Try another gas station. If it happens consistently take it to the dealer. In some early 2004's it was enough of an issue to have a TSB, and people who complained got a free replacement. Later units already had the improved fill pipe, but people still occasionally report this problem

yep. either be patient with the pump, or settle for half a tank. either way, you're still spending much less time at the gas station

I've had some success with not using the auto-shutoff and filling slowly.

Or if using auto pump - then only use the first click on the handle (the slowest speed).

That will do it.

I find myself going to an aging gas station with older, slower pumps.
