This has never happened to me before. I was parked next to another prius (a 2006) and they had their doors open (don't know if that's relevant) and my door would not open. I tried several times. Finally I had to actually take the fob out of my pocket and press the Open button. That worked. I don't remember ever having read about this before.

When I see an open parking spot next to anothr Prius, I always take that one. The SKS has always worked for me.

Lately, my SKS sometimes requires a "2nd touch" on the door handle sensor to unlock and I am wondering if the battery in my FOB needs replacing. Maybe you can do an "effective range" test to see if your FOB is effective from a distance. I'd try keeping it in your pocket and pressing the button from various ranges.

Obvious question.....the SKS works every other time? If so that's something to remember it case that happens to others. It's possible that there is an interpherance with other Prii.

I have to go along with Herb. Although we have just had the Prius since Thursday, yesterday when we pulled into the supermarket parking lot, we had to find the proverbial out of the way place to park. As we moved to the end of one aisle, there was our twin. An '06 Prius in Silver Pine Mica even from the same dealer. Figured right next to it was the best place to park. Since we just needed a few items, the other owner hadn't returned before us. But I digress.

When we returned the SKS functioned flawlessly.

interesting, as the other car door was open it's entirely possible that the other cars SKS transmitter was over powering the one in your car. I would have asked the other driver to help diagnose the problem by closing his door and then you open yours and see if they could get their SKS to work. As the SKS transducer is a close range set up I doubt that your fob battery has anything to do with it, I'm sure that it's because their door was open and their transducer was disrupting the signal thru your fob.

I have yet to experience any problem parking next to another Prius, but then no one has ever been in their Prius when I've been parked next to them.

I think the manual does say something about interference from nearby SKS systems rendering your SKS inoperable. It probably was just the fact that they were in their car with the doors open.

Personally, I think it was either the fact that their door was open, or that they were very close with their own fob, or both.

Otherwise my fob functions normally, including on the rare occasions when I've been parked next to another Prius

The second may be the case where they were within range of your door pickup and it is the wrong code.
