I just found this and registered. What's with the half years? I wasn't sure if I should put down 2004.5 since I bought mine in August, but there wasn't a model change that year. However, there were a few programming changes prior to my purchase.
I'm not too keen on providing my license plate #.

I have an explanation of half-years on the page, but quite a few people still get confused by them. They're mostly for when a vehicle is heavily redesigned but given the same model year as the old design, like the 2005.5 Jetta or the 2004.5 Spectra.

Most manufacturers don't do the half-year thing. The main culprits are VW/Audi, Kia, and Volvo.

On the license plate, I selected the least private info through which I could, if necessary, verify that cars exist. Every time you drive the car many people see it. I know many people are still uncomfortable with it, but if I collected no potentially identifying info at all then many more people would be uncomfortable with the research.

I do allow people to enter 99 if they don't know their plate number. I'm only planning to follow up and get the actual number if there's a pressing need to verify the existence of vehicles.

Last fall I started conducting my own reliability research, with the aim of reporting more detailed and more easily compared information than is currently available.

Essentially, anyone who helps provide the data will have free access to the results.

Largely thanks to the assistance of this forum, I'm now collecting data on the 2005 and 2006 Prius, and almost have enough of the 2004 to get started. I can always use a larger sample for all cars -- you can never have too large a sample.

Information: http://www.truedelta.com/reliability.php

I've also started collecting fuel economy data.

To everyone who is already helping out -- thanks.

I just signed up with my 2004 Prius, so that's another 2004 you'll have some numbers for. I'm looking forward to seeing the data. I love my Prius and want to buy another one so we'll each have one, but can't afford the second one right now.

Thanks. Still short on the 2004s. I'm seeing a low repair rate for the 2006, but a higher one for the 2005. I'm going to be following up with everyone who reported a repair to see if this is a fluke from the small sample size.

I think many people are especially interested in seeing how these cars age.

Thanks.

Looks like this thread has become unstuck, along with some others. Clean house here recently?

Anyway, next set of results in a week or so.

I posted the results in another thread about a week ago.

They can also be found, along with those of other models, here:

This is the last month in the current quarter--next results in August. More Prii would certainly be helpful.

For the details, and to sign up to help out:

It's looking like the results for the 2004 will be asterisked, because of an insufficient number of responses. Especially need more cars for that model year. Also still wondering where all the Gen 1 owners are.
