I have a 2005 Prius package #6. It includes Stability Control and HID Headlamps w/auto leveling feature. I called the local dealer and was quoted $300.00 for a new HID light. QUESTIONS::

1. Why is the price $300.00?

2. Why does Stability Control make a difference?

3. Is there a after market vendor?

4. Who makes the bulb and what is the model numbert?

Thanks,
Buzzard Bill

1. the dealer is always alot more

2. the 2005 models that have VSC have HID headlights. no VSC... no HID lights it's just the way toyota made the packages.

3. take a look at this link to a ebay sale for a pair $109.95 is not bad .
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XENON-HID-B...emZ320001789992

4. look a the ebay site above , it has a link to view the bulbs for all cars.
It says for 2005 prius the headlight bulb is HID-D2R that is the base. then you have to select the color and brightness. 5000k is white light 6000k is blue light. I have heard that you should change both bulbs so both have the same light output.

It is interesting to note that the 2006 prius has a different headlight bulb the HID-D4R
also the 2006 brake light is a LED not a light bulb . All the other bulbs are the same between 2005 and 2006

You didn't say why your light burned out. hit by a rock ?
seems like it had a very short life.

hope this helps,

Here is a link to a place selling 1 bulb (D2R) FOR $50.00
keep in mind if you only replace 1 side the other side might have a different color or brightness.
