Instead of waiting for all the confusion at the end of the year, I decided to get the ball rolling now on my tax credit. I took possession of my package#1 2006 prius on 4/20/06 so I'm pretty certain I qualify for the full credit(barring any AMT issues). I asked him if I need to do anything and he asked if my dealer gave us the tax certification credit letter. I'm pretty sure this document doesn't exist. I told him that we probably should just apply the credit in the tax return. And should he need it, I can give him the bill of sale. I gave him the following links:

http://www.toyota.com/prius/tax.html

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...156048,00.html

Is there anything else I should do?

There is no form from the dealer. The form your accountant will need is form 8910. It's still labeled 2005, but if you read the directions and the stuff that's already filled in it's for the 2006 credit. I suspect they'll fix the year as we get closer to tax time. If you also look at line 4, you get 100% of the credit automatically because you purchased so early in the year (this may change with a later rev. of the form though).

Thanks. Form 8910 is exactly what I was looking for.

If you go to the IRS web site and do a search for 8910 the form will come up as the first item. It has already been corrected for use on your 2006 return. I guess you accountant can take it from there.

The body is (seemingly) correct, but it still has 2005 in the upper corner. That's the only part that seems in error that I'm sure will get corrected when the "official" 2006 forms come out.
