Is this a subtle way for you to tell me that you shouldn't be putting 42psi in my tires after cooling them to -100c?

Why not, what could go wrong?

A or B

A. There really is no such thing as a stupid question...

or

B. There is no such thing as a really stupid question...

That dry ice is not free: To get it you have to pay extra for your groceries.

This has nothing to do with tire pressure, but the dry ice gave me an idea. What if you were to "mount" some dry ice under your car. The "fog" it produces would look really cool when you were stealthing around.

I love it!!!

Always wear insulating gloves when handling dry ice, it can burn you in seconds. If you pack your tire in dry ice to check the pressure, a few simple taps should remove most of the heavy tread, lightening the tire and car to produce better MPG...

This is true. However, there are things such as really, really ignorant questions (not to imply this is one of them), i.e., "Where's the 'Any' key?"

I have use this method for years. The next morning when I checked the tire pressures, they are exactly right where I expected. I no longer bother checking the pressures the next morning. I know what the readings will be.

Of course with the Prius, you have two different pressures to consider – front and rear - but the concept is the same.

Thanks for posting this method -- even though you weren't find a use for perfectly good dry ice -- it makes a lot of sense.

Now, can somebody please give me tips for actually filling the tires to the pressure you want? I find it somewhat tricky. Also, the coin-operated air machines always make me feel rushed to get all the tires filled before the time is out. I sometimes end up with maybe not quite the right pressure in the last tire because I don't want to add more money to start the machine up again.

I have a small compressor pump for my daily drivers that is powered from the cigarette lighter. They can be purchased often for less than $20.00 and although they are not fast and not intended for long term heavy use, for the random tire adjustment or basket ball recharge they are perfectly fine and a good thing to have on the road in case the spare tire is flat or you have a can of fix-a-flat along with you. For regular stuff or large tires (like on my camaro), I have a small compressor and air tank I take with me.
