I received the steering recall on my '04 Prius yesterday so they are still being sent out. Thanks to PriusChat I know what to watch out for. Will have the work done the first week of August.

Good luck. It was pretty painless for me; just make sure your steering wheel is centered correctly after the work is done. Mine is off only slightly to the right, but turns out it is driving me nuts, so I may take it in for them to fix it soon.

They should be sending the last of the notifications sometime next week, according to an earlier message from TMS USA.

The dealer notification containing Technical Instructions and other specifics necessary to conduct this campaign effectively will be communicated to dealers by June 5. About one week after that, we will begin sending notifications to our Prius customers, about 170,000 total in daily mailings extended over a five to six week time period.

I had mine done last week as well. Looks like they potentially replaced 2 parts on mine.

I also had them do an alignment though (toe was out -0.04°, corrected to +0.05°), so I wouldn't have noticed the steering wheel if it was off - it's just ever so slight to the left, but that could just as well be from the alignment.

One thing to note - Larry Miller Toyota was going to charge $109.95 for the 4 wheel alignment! Good thing I had a coupon to lower it to $79.95. Last time around, at Tustin (CA), it was $79.95 w/o coupon and $74.95 w/ for 4 wheel. I kinda resent the fact that w/ VSC equipped cars, only dealers can do the alignment (unless alignment shops now know the procedure to reset VSC w/ a scan tool).

Quality seems to be an issue at many a dealer. I've had an air vent hanging out of the dash on one occasion and a disconnected gas guage on another when picking up from service. It's too bad that the factory quality workmanship doesn't always translate to dealer service dept. Got my steerling wheel call notice on Sat. -- I can't wait to see where the wheel's pointing when they're done.

I had mine done last Saturday. It went fine. It's really gonna depend on which dealer you take it to, judging by the posts I've been seeing.

I just got back from taking my 05' to Price Toyota in Wilmington, DE for the recall. They managed to get the steering wheel about 30° left of center on the first try, but got it done right on the second try. They did spoil the moment for me just a bit by leaving the hood slightly open so it was only held down by the secondary latch. I wondered what the odd whistling sound was as I drove on I-95. No harm done though, and the car is safe at home now.

If you haven't already done so I would recommend checking the other thread on this:

http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=20240&st=220

There is some good information on page 12 about steering wheel alignment and wheel alignment.
