I am just wondering (what with the 2007's just around the corner) if my carpool stickers can go w/me to a new Prius or can I sell the car ( and I guess the plates, right? ) with the current stickers -- and therefore charge more.

Not that I would, mind you, just wondering what the policy is on that... I saw THIS:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-Priu...sspagenameZWDVW

Auction: 170017050430

They seem to be selling it WITH the stickers...

Would be worth a WHOLE LOT More money to the buyer, no? (especially when--soon--the stickers will not be available anymore)

My understanding is that the stickers are now part of the car. They have to stay with the car or be removed and thrown away.

However, do the stickers go in the new owner's name .. and if so, does my transponder, and if my transponder does not, then doesn't the new owner get stickers w/o a transponder--which is not right according to the DMV..

Ya understand where i am confused?

The stickers come with a certificate that has the car's VIN and license plate number. I don't think that the registered owners' names are on it; however, I am not about to take an elevator ride to verify this.

When they run out of stickers, I am going to put my car up for sale and use the exorbitant profit I'll be making to buy a new Camry Hybrid.

I bought a used Pri with stickers, and got new license plates. All I had to do was get a special transponder. When I called the FastTrak agency, they told me the previous owner can either:

1) Leave the stickers on the car, and the new owner will be able to register and use (as I am). They must get a transponder if they live in certain areas.

2) Remove them and apply for replacement stickers. That option is on the DMV sticker application form. You have to explain why you are replacing and pay the $8 fee again.

Either way, your FastTrak transponder stays with you.

That's what they told me. My only caveat is that I can only confirm option 1 from personal experience. Anybody else done option 2?

Well, that solves one question. The next is: If they stop issuing stickers cos there are over 75000 hybrids out there with stickers, can I still re-apply for replacement stickers for my new hybrid? I would assume that, yes, i can...but who can tell with the DMV?

(sorry.. Just call this thread: The never-ending question!)

I think you are out of luck on any new hybrid you buy after the stickers run out as they go with the car.
You cannot get replacement stickers for the new car you buy....

I agree. The replacements are for damaged stickers on the car for which the stickers were initially issued, not for a replacement car of the owner.

I haven't put mine on yet. Can I sell them? Would they be worth much?
