It sounded like a worn brake pad contacting the disk. The sound disappeared in a second or so, and about 20 miles later the red brake light, the yellow ABS light and an exclamation sign inside a circle came on. Given my location at e time, taking the car immediately to the Toyota dealer was out of the question. Besides, the car continued to brake normally. Today I made a test on wet pavement and confirmed that the ABS system is not working. The car has 45,000 miles on the odometer, so this repair won't be covered by the warranty I wansn't expecting this from a Toyota. <_< |

And I know that the regenerative braking doesn't really use the brakes, but hell... try to approach it from that angle and get them to at least reduce the cost somewhat. | |

Fortunately I forgot what I read in the manual and drove the car to the dealer with normal brake function. They replaced the ABS actuator and resistor but did not reconnect the dimmer switch. (It took another day to reconnect the switch.) |
