Hi my name is greg and took delivery of a 06 prius about three weeks ago. I have just about 5000 miles on it already and seem to be averaging 48mpg on the interstate ( 70-75 mph) and a over all average of about 51 mpg. That seems to be the best I can do living in a large metro area like Houston tx. To attempt to drive in such a manor that causes the eng. to start as little as possible would be like inviting suicide on these busy streets. So, I have two questions - Is that a reasonable mpg for the circumstances? I have no trouble pairiing my razor to the cars bluetooth but I have alot of problems pairing my treo 650. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well, if you want opinions, you certainly came to the right place. We have more opinions than we have Priuses It's an illusion, though, thinking that you'll die if you drive slower. I drive 65 in a 70 zone freeway where most drivers go 80-85 and I've had no trouble. Everyone in the country thinks that they live in the only place where most drivers are maniacs but there are lots of maniacs no matter where you are. Not being one of them brings me a lot of peace.

average of 51 is what most people around here would call "really good" for someone who's not trying to beat any records. Don't give it a second thought.

5000 miles in 3 weeks though? your commute is from Houston to Los Angeles?

Greg, it sounds like you're getting fantastic mileage right off the bat! It took me a few months of really trying and striving to get a tank above 50mpg and I've only managed to do it a handful of times in the almost-7 months I've had the car.

I've had no trouble pairing my Razr to my bluetooth, but have no experience with treo's so I'm of no help there.

That's over 86,000 miles per year. If you don't mind me asking, how do you rack up 5,000 miles in 3 weeks?

We're all hoping you meant 500 miles. If that's the case, you're ripping it up. Good work!

Some people push more air into their tires. AC is in my opinion the biggest drain. In Houston, turning it off is not an option, but you can run the temperture up a bit.

At 5000 miles you'll starting getting the break-in period benefits. I'm not quite there, but I'm already seeing a tangible bump.

Hope over to the techical threads or do a search for help on the phone...

I picked the car up on a sat. and on mon. drove from Houston Tx to Greenville SC then on to West Palm Fla and back to Houston. The balance of the miles is local (local in Texas covers alot of territory)

I also could pair the Razr perfectly but could not keep the pairing of the Treo 650. It connects for just a few seconds and then it looses it. Fortunately I was able to move fast enough on one lucky try to get my address book in there!

Hi Dripps, just got off the phone with my lexus dealer and he says that there is a download from the treo website that should fix the problem. Apparently they have similiar problems pairing the treo to the lexus product. Let me know if you figure it out...............

I've got 1500 miles on my new Prius and have gotten 52-53 on several 200 miles trips and about 46-48 around town. I just drive it like any other vehicle I've owned and don't get into the "gotta get max miles" mentality. I think the main reason I get good mileage is that I drive 60 on secondary roads and 72 on interstates....but that's the way I drove the subie we traded in -- although it only got 26 on the same trips
