I just replaced my old phone with a Blackberry 8703 - I was able to get the car and phone to see each other but when I power up still get bluetooth failed message. I'm sure I'm doing something horribly dumb - hoping the original poster can tell me what dopey thing I've done wrong.

Thanks! 3 years and still loving my green car!

I'll give that a try... I also have an older Kenwood 8" powered sub from a former car's life that I might drop in the rear. It was the Kenwood version of the Bazooka tube.

I disconnected the center speaker and have a Bazooka. Sounds fantastic. (Except when a sheet of newspaper accidentally slides in front of the Bazooka. Bzzz bzzz. ) I like the Bazooka because it's easy to take out temporarily if you need to use the space for storage.

After reading a few posts regards disconnecting the center speaker, I think I will try the recommendation.

Do you have the 6" or the 8" bazooka?

Also, I've heard that they blow out, but that you can replace the speakers once they do... ?

Funny. I remember overhearing this young male asking "does this car have tiptronic?"

I'm like.. why do you want a quasi-manual transmission? Yeah it's fun to shift but I'll stick to semi-automatics on the Logitech Driving Force Pro for GT4 :P

Give me a sequential manual (SMG or DSG) otherwise a CVT works fine for me.

I travel up to Lake Tahoe quite a bit (~7500 ft altitude change), and I always want to have my GTI with a 5-speed for easier engine braking on decents.

With the CVT, how do you engine brake? Can you engine brake?

Don't know if I want to be buying new brake pads every year ...

Thanks for the help!

You use B instead of D. This provides something similar to engine breaking if you choose to use it. I only use it on very steep downgrades (typically not on I80 but sometimes on 267 into Kings Beach). Also, since you have regenerative braking, your physical brake pads do not engage except for hard stops or at very slow speeds. The pads on a Prius should last much longer than most other vehicles.

Also note that you'll sound like a plane coming in for landing when going down the hill .

Although we're a few days away from picking up our 08-2, it dawned on me I've experienced CVT, or close to it. We looked at a 1950 Buick (Krylon-sprayed yellow, burlap upholstery, but that's another story). My two mechanics (veterans and good ones) and I as well couldn't figure out why it wasn't shifting, and I was about not to buy it when the visiting Midas man said, "Oh, that's hydramatic!" and everyone said, "Of course! Why didn't I think of that?"

So if I can find Krylon yellow and some good quality burlap, I might go seriously retro.

Midas guy used the term "hydramatic". I am aware, but had a dementia moment, that "Dynaflo" was a Buick copyright for the generic process. I appreciate your information, of course...reminded me of the term. The transmission was filled with oil, which somehow forced changes in gearing as I sped up from 5 to 10 mph, or something like that -- kept the car in town, never put it on the highway.

Oh, thought of something else after I posted earlier. When I started the car on the lot, the salesman had me push a button when I suggested an ignition key would be nice. Nothing happened; I said the thing wasn't running. He had me step out and put my hand on the hood. A slight vibration, no noise. So can I say I once owned a pre-Prius? Should I call our new car "Buick?"
