I checked out a few online quote resources and got some responses from dealers in my area. I think this one was from carsdirect.com.

Package # 4 MSRP $26,374 Invoice $24,248

Package # 5 MSRP $28,274 Invoice $25,863

Each vehicle has a dealers hold back of $443. I am willing to sell the vehicle for Invoice - Hold back.

Sale Price: Package 4 $23,805

Sale Price: Package 5 $25,420

What do you guys think? Is that worth jumping on or should I wait and look around some more.

They look pretty good to me. The Pkg 5 were were offered at invoice in Palo Alto was $25,700 at the end of February. If you could close the deal tomorrow (before April 1st) I believe you still qualify for the current tax credit (around $15K). It will go down to half that in April. Given your location it may be hard to accomplish but I'd say it's worth a try.

While that would be nice, the credit is $1.5K.

Those prices look pretty good. You could probably do even better, but given your situation (i.e., being in the ME right now), this might be a good way to go.

Be safe.

Just Checking in to say I got a Package 5 Prius on Thu. (3/29) for $25,561+TTL in the Los Angeles Metro area.

I had 2 dealers agree to sell for $25,000+TTL, but when it came time to put it in writing, one tried to switch in a different-colored interior, and the other refused; telling me to "just come in and we'll get it done for you."

Hi,
Should name the dealers who do not keep their word on a deal.
Might help some others.

Hello Carl;
I agree that it would be far more helpful for me to have named names.

I chose not to do so because I think it wrong to condemn an entire dealership for what might have been the actions of a single salesman.

While I was in the midst of the aforementioned dealer shenanagans, I kept thinking of the tired old adage that "if a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is." That seems like the most helpful advice I can give.

Hi Alex,
Understand your reasoning.
About a month ago we bought 2, Prius cars, from different dealers within a week. We made a "deal" over the phone, including tradein $$ at one place.
Both dealers completely honored our agreement the next day--NO problems or BS.
We're also in the L.A. area.
It seems your experiences were unfortunate but not typical. Found buying these cars the best (almost enjoyable) I have seen in MANY years of car buying.
Have fun with the car.
Carl

Thanks for the kind words!

I was using the "fax attack," so I spoke with 32 dealerships. Bound to be a couple scumbags in there somewhere, no?

Cheers,
Alex
