I didn't get it when I bought my Tacoma 6 years ago and I am glad I didn't. 105,000 miles and counting! I may buy it for the Prius though, with all that technology and stuff going on.

It depends on you, clintd555. If you trade for a new car every 3 years, do not get an extended warranty. If you intend to keep your Prius until the wheels fall off, you may want the assurance that an extended warranty would give you. Toyota makes very reliable cars. Most problems with a faulty part will happen in the first 3 years/36K miles, under warranty.

If you will never get sick, don't get health insurance. If you will always be able to work, avoid disability insurance. If your house and contents can't burn, don't waste your money on fire insurance. Do what feels comfortable and what you can afford. $990 can buy a lot of peace of mind.

I got mine for two main reasons...I got a 2004, which was the first model year of a redesign (EVERY manufacturer has more problems with a redesign), and there was a known problem with the MFD. My car was in the VIN range for that problem, but it didn't malfunction prior to 36,000 miles. Since I didn't know if Toyota would give courtesy repairs on that indefinitely, I went ahead and purchased peace of mind.

YMMV
