Hello - My Prius automatically chooses whether to use fresh or recirculated air, which I find to be somewhat unfortunate seeing as how I'm usually driving behind a gross polluter. Does anybody know how to set the A/C to recirculated air and then prevent the car from changing to fresh? Thanks!

Yeah, just press recirc and it'll stay there.

The moment you press any button (from AUTO mode), that respective mode becomes manually operated.

e.g. if you touch the fan speed, then the fan speed becomes manually operated but the mode (head, head/feet etc) is still automatic.

With recirc, if you manually close the vent, then it'll stay in recirc until you open it.

Yeah, I do manually press the recirculate button, but it turns itself off occasionally. Also, when I turn the car on, it typically defaults to fresh. I usually use the recirculate button on the steering wheel...any chance that that makes a difference?

Your dealer can set the default using a scan tool.

yeah it does revert automatically when you restart unlses you ask for heat then it might use recirc to get the cabin heated up faster.

It'll turn off if you press AUTO A/C as well but it should stay when you toggle the front defroster.

On both my 2005 and 2007, if I have the AC in recirc when I shut the car off, when I start it again it is in recirc and stays that way. Lotta stinky F150s and log trucks in Oregon...
