Just came back fom the dealer.

Hi,

I just purchased through the Costco program and the 'deal' was invoice plus $250. A Blue 2007 prius with package #2 was $22,589 out the door. It included floor mats and something called Rear Bumper Applique.

The original MSRP sticker was $24,234 less $600 (Economic Savings Bonus) for a total MSRP of $23,634. What seemed odd was the sticker price for Package #2 was $1,175 but all the info on the internet indicated this package was about $600.

No sales tax.
No trade in.
No financing.

I hate buying cars, but this experience was not too bad. I still can't escape the feeling that I could have gotten a better deal. At least the number he told me over the phone didn't change when I was at the dealer to sign the papers.

I originally was looking to buy used but these cars seem to hold their value very well so a it was easy to rationalize buying new.

Did I get a good deal?

Tom

Seems like a good deal to me...the best quote I've gotten is $21,740 plus tax and fees...

Do you mean the price doesn't include tax trade financing?

I though OTD included tax and license and doc fees

I became a Prius owner today! I can't comment on the price you got. I decided to buy a used one (2005) which saved me about $7,000 over the new car quotes I got around Atlanta. I wanted the deluxe package with leather seats and all the bells and whistles (available on a 2005.) So, I do not have the camera function. Your not having to pay sales tax (how does that work?) was a trememndous savings alone, as I paid $1,500 in tax today. My drive out price was $22,000 and I will buy an extended warranty - but the car I bought has almost 25,000 mile on it.

I live in Connecticut and the state does not charge sales tax on Hybrid vehicles at this time.

If you don't mind my asking, what price did you pay in IL?

I am in the Chicago area and am days away from purchasing a Touring with option 6, the best price I have been quoted is $26,395.00 + tax, title e.t.c

Thanks

The real question to ask the original poster: What difference does it make what we answer? Are you going to be able to do anything if, for example, someone else got a lower price? Probably not.

Be advised that prices can vary widely between dealers due to overhead. Rent and salaries are a lot cheaper in rural Nebraska than they are in Los Angeles. Lower overhead usually means lower prices.

So prices quoted for other areas of the country are somewhat meaningless.

Since I already bought the car, I guess it really doesn't matter.

I guess I should had directed my post to those who live in the Northeast.

Thanks for your input,

Tom

Yeah, if you think about it, there isn't much that can be done at this point.

Sorry if I came off a bit nasty, but there are 20 people a week who post the same question. Then 20 more who say "Is this price good? Should I buy it?" At least those asking the pre-buy question might be able to take some action, but they still don't consider regional price differences.

You might not be aware that the option packages differ based on region. For example, There is no Package 2 available in Southern California (or the Central area where I am), but they can be bought in the San Francisco Bay Area. That makes price comparison even more difficult.
