My Car: Package: Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | It's also nice to be driving slowly in a residential when some kid decides to throw water baloons at you. I will agree, though, that driving below the limit on the interstate is a bit of a safety hazard. Yes, if you get in a wreck, your chances of survival go up, but going slow will cause people to break hard if they don't expect how slow you are, it will cause them to tailgate, it will cause them to have some incidents of road rage. Certainly, in theory you should be able to go slower than the speed limit, but it just doesn't work that way in reality.

My Car: 2004 Prius Package: #9 Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | I generally 'go with the flow' on the superslab in one of the two right lanes, depending on how many exits there are. If it's fairly sparse, the right lane is fine, but if there's a lot of merge/exit activity, the second lane from the right is usually best for steady progress. The important point for me is that I find my mileage is more influenced by how often I have to slow down and speed back up than by a couple of mph one way or another average speed. However, if you're on the road for any length of time, you're likely to come up on one or more people doing the limit or only a couple over in the right lane. If I want to loaf along, I find I can fall into or behind a group like that, and be relatively safe from the road rage contingent, because they tend to blame the first car in the line. They can race around all of us, doing the same speed, and only shake their fist at the leader Plus, you aren't contributing anything to congestion, because the group would be going the same speed whether you were there or not. |

My Car: 2006 Prius Package: #4 Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 5 | in Western WA i go with the flow, and that flow frequently is 5-15 mph BELOW the limit on the freeway. that is why i like I-5 south of Tumwater. 70 mph and that is the legal limit. also on two trips of semi decent length i got about 50.5 and 51.3 mpg so still hit EPA. (although on both trips there were several areas where the speed of the car was 50-60 because of congestion) unfortunately unlike Oregon, there is no "drive right except to pass" law here and that SUCKS!!! driving in Oregon is sooooo much nicer than here!! |

I was going 44 mph in a 35 mph zone. After the first two lights we stopped at, he continued to flash his light for me to go faster. Finally, he changed lanes so I slowed up so he could go around me. He probably got to his destination 2 minutes faster than I did. Jeff |
