So I get a flyer in the mail from Toyota. Gymic to get me in for scheduled service no doubt ... this 50 year anniversary thing.
Here's a pic of the flyer:

[attachmentid=9082]

Oh joy, they consider their gas guzzlin' petrol hog more appripo (for their ad) than their high tech - high sellin' flyin off the shelf wonder car. If they're trying to show how far they've come, then they ought to be waving the Prius at me, shouldn't they? Guess my oil change at 60,000 will be at the Goodyear dealer, in stead, thank you very much.

Looking at it in a light most favorable to Toyota, maybe the gas hog needs more maintenance?

Ah, but look what's on their 50th anniversary page - a shiny gold Prius!

Its about money as it always is. They have bet the farm on the Tundra, or at least part of it.

"And you know the surest way to go broke? Keep getting an increasing share of a shrinking market. Down the tubes. Slow but sure. You know, at one time there must've been dozens of companies making buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best goddamn buggy whip you ever saw."

--Danny DeVito in "Other People's Money"

I think Toyota is making a fundamental business mistake with the Tundra. They are going after marketshare in a market that is declining. Why do you think Ford and GM are in such big trouble? It's because they bet on selling a lot of pick-ups. You think Toyota would have learned from the mistakes those two made.

"Sales of pickup trucks, which rely heavily on buyers in industries like construction, have declined 3.5 percent through May this year. But full-size pickups still account for 13.2 percent of the overall U.S. market, flat from a year ago...

On a combined basis, General Motors Corp., Ford and Chrysler Group control more than 90 percent of the U.S. full-size pickup market."

Big ol' Trucks: Yes, they are SOOO very necessary. And that's why most Asian & European roads are so narrow ... and why you see so few big ol' trucks over there. Because they are just soooooo necessary. :P Funny how construction gets along just fine w/out mongo trucks throughout much of the rest of the world.

Asian countries don't need trucks to haul stuff. That's what peasants are for.

You're kidding, right? Reading your other posts that's safe to assume. You DO know that Chinese citizens now have RV clubs ... off road clubs, etc? Yea boy, we set a great example on how to preserve natural resources. I can't blame Toyota & GM for pandering the mongo trucks. Sure, there are still rickshaws and san pans through out Asia, but those aren’t the things that are causing us to have to compete for the remaining global oil supply.

On a happier note, thanks for the post above that shows there was at least one other 50 year anniversary ad from Toyota, depicting the Prius, in stead of the guzzler pickup.

Did you get it at your California or Montana address? If you received it at your Montana address, then it could be that they have targeted their flyer to different regions.
