My 2007 Prius Touring came with a black plastic piece in the glove box that looked like it could have been a cover for a radio hole years ago. It is about 3.5 inches by 10 inches and one end is square but the other is not, thus forming a trapezoid. Anyone know what this is or where it came from?

It's a shelf for the upper glove box. You'll notice it's shaped just like the inside of the glove box. If you look on both sides there are channels to slide it into.

Be sure to put it in the slots correctly, othewise you will have a strange rattle that is very difficult to locate.

I realize that this question has already been answered for the original poster. But for the sake of thoroughness, I'm going to post a picture of the glove box shelf installed. This picture is from Joe's Diner collection of Prius pictures: http://gallery.joesdiner.com/gallery/Prius

And what is the 1 1/2" covered hole in the drivers's side of the front bumper?

Speculations:

1. Access to a diagnostic port

2. Access to a future plug in charging port

3. 30 cal. Machine gun for the 007 model

4. 40 terawatt phaser cannon

??????

If you remove that plug, you will find a threaded nut that will accept a short eye bolt that is in with the spare tire tools in the trunk. If you get stuck in the mud or snow and need to pull it out, you have to screw this in and pull on it.

I do like the idea of the 40 terawatt phaser cannon though.

Huh? Why? What does screwing that in and pulling on it do?
