Hey all, I was just wondering, do I have to take my Prius to the dealership I bought it from? In my case, it came from Berkeley, and I live in Santa Cruz (about 1 1/2 hours away), and it would be amazingly wonderful if I could take it to the dealer here in town....I've only had the car about 2 weeks and there is a weird sound coming from the brakes (possibly, I'm not sure)...I just want to have them check it out and see if I really did screw something up. here's the original post:

Nope, you can take it to any Toyota-certified service center. All of them have access to your purchase records if you bought from another Toyota dealership.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of service are you having done? If it is just an oil change, you can take it anyplace and not have to worry about voiding your warranty. I only recommend using a Toyota dealer for repairs covered by the warranty.

I'm on my second Prius (2004 traded for 2007). I have not taken either to the selling dealer and have experienced very good service at the Dealer Service Department of my choice. I have found that Dallas TX area Toyota dealers are happy to service my Prius regardless of where I bought it.

Example: On my 2004, I provided my own motor oil (Mobil-1 5W30 - 3 or 3½ quarts - I used the 3-quart option when I had the leftover ½ quart from the previous oil change. The 3-quart change left the oil level halfway between "Add" and "Full" and I topped the level up when I got back home), provided a 'by the numbers' list of what I wanted done, used the dealer's oil filter, had the tires rotated using my specified tire pressures. My bill was below $50 and my Prius was delivered with a freshly washed exterior. I've only had the 5K service on the 2007 which I chose to have done at my long-time Independent's shop for convenience.

My 2¢ worth...

You will find a few here who would rather do thier repairs themselves, oil filters ect.
I used to get mine done at mobile lube but they quit servicing hybrids. At least in orlando.

I say, If a person wants to take thier car to a dealership let them.. I purchased my 07 cam had a major malfunction, took it to the closest dealer (not where I purchased it) they told me it wasnt a manufacturers defect so I needed to take it back to were I purchased it. I did and they told me it was a defective car and switched out to another one (in a nut shell)..

I used to change the oil every 6k, or when the light came on.

The first day I had it I went over a pretty bad dip, and since then there is a metal sound that i hear when im gliding along w/o ICE on.....it could have been there before, but I'm not sure cause I had only had the car for 3 hours or so.... here's my original post on the problem:
