I just read that the 2008 Camry Hybrid base price will drop $1,000. The drop in price brings the TCH close to a fully loaded Prius. I have both 2007 cars and I like the TCH over the Prius for ride and handling. On the other hand, my wife loves the Prius for getting around town and hauling crap. The TCH is limited in trunk space and is a tad big for parking spaces. MPG on the TCH is 35MPG or better and a few 41MPGs. A $1,000 drop in price is a big chunk of change. Is the reduction in price because the car is not selling well in relationship to the other camrys or is it that they are now being built in the US? Anyone have an answer?

Not selling well? Sounds like the greenwashing articles are rubbing off. Time for a reality check...

28,070 for the first half of this year is a pretty solid number, something the competition certainly would be pleased with.

I think the 1k lower MSRP is to be competative with next gen Prius and to reach their 1 million HSD per year sale goal.

They're dropping the price to introduce an "LE" Camry Hybrid. To accompany that price drop, they've removed the following features:

- leather wrapped steering wheel & shift knob
- JBL Audio
- Electrochromatic auto-dimming mirrors w/compass
- Homelink
- 16" alloys

I'm impressed with the Camry's mpg. Makes my Prius seem kinda old. I wonder what the new Prius will do with mpg. I noticed Edmunds had a review on the Camry Hybrid and they got really good mpg. Prius appears to be needing an update soon.
