My daughter will be taking her driving exam in Georgia soon in one of our two prius. I have heard somewhere that some states will not accept the prius for the exam. Any truth to this?

i have never heard of a restriction on the type of car allowed but i did find this online...hope it helps...

" Step 3 - Getting your first Driver License
BACK

*

To be eligible to take your driving test you must:
o Be at least 16 years old.
o Have held a learner permit for a year and a day.
o Effective January 1st, 2007 sixteen year olds must be in compliance with Joshua's Law.
o Submit your Social Security number.
o A parent or legal guardian must sign an affidavit that the applicant has had at least 40 hours of on-the-road driving experience, including at least 6 hours of night driving, with a parent or guardian. The 40 hour requirement is in addition to the driving completed with an instructor during an approved driver education class.
o At the time of the road test examination, a parent or legal guardian with a Georgia License or ID Card will have to sign for you. The legal guardian must have a certified guardianship paper from court or adoption papers with an embossed court seal.
o A Georgia DDS Certificate of Attendance form must be signed and notarized from your school. It is only valid for 30 days. All applicants under the age of 18 not enrolled in school must provide a GED diploma, high school diploma, or an attendance form from the local Board of Education if enrolled in an approved home school program.
o You must have the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP) card.
o Applicant will be required to pass an eye and a driving test.

The vehicle the driver is testing in must be properly insured, registered, have a valid tag and must pass a safety inspection. You will be asked to show a valid insurance card. You may not take the test in a rental car."

i found it here; http://driversed.com/drivers-ed-license/Ge...ense.aspx#step3

There was a recent thread about someone's daughter using the Prius for her test. She wasn't allowed to use the backup camera, so they had to rig something temporary, like tape over the lens.

If the Georgia DMV is anything like the NC DMV, good luck trying to get them to answer the question. Or even the phone.

I didn't have a problem using my 2007 prius for my Colorado driving test in June, although I only backed up once (from a parking space). The instructor was too busy looking at all the cool gadgets to count me off for anything

DH had to take a driving test to get his nc license- he lost his wi license card. we had just bought our 87 camry, and it had an nc inspection tag but wi plates on it. he was told the car was ineligible for a road test because it had "conflicting information" on it. so DH offered to remove the inspection tag. (because removing the plates was not an option!) the tester then told him that he would be arrested for doing such. (wtf?!)

anyway, he ended up taking the prius with an nc temporary tag on it and nc state inspection sticker and it was fine.

as DH was once told, someone with his capability should be in college, not doing mindless maintenance awaiting the occasional brain teaser. after conquering the entire ASE automotive series, he's busy retooling the diagnostic mindset for other life protecting applications. the prius tech is officially scarce, and his other half is sad without him.

Hey, Thanks for the information and advise. My daughter feels better about taking the test in the prius.

You might take a towel along to drape over the screen, just in case.

No tape needed. No towel needed...
Just turn the MFD (display) off... (to turn it back on just push any other MFD button)

I thought the back up camera came on even when the MFD display was turned off. Now you've got me second guessing myself. I'll have to check at lunch time if nobody else confirms/contradicts this before then.

Edit 8/9/07: Confirmed that the camera still comes on even when the MFD display is turned off.
