. . . when you stand in front of the security door at work with your badge in your pocket waiting for the SKS to unlock the door.

... when you can't figure out how to start other cars. (Key? you need to put a key in somewhere?)

For the first week after I brought home my Prius (and sometimes even now, several months later), I got really pissed off at my house door for not unlocking itself when I got home. Stand at the front door, fishing keys out of my pocket, grumbling.

And then there's the fact that nobody -- not even the sharp-eared parrot -- hears me drive up anymore, so I don't get my customary Welcome Home greetings. Nobody cares anymore, sigh....

Mine was when I parked Sweetie's car and then went looking for the Power button to turn it off. There were several seconds of "I know I'm supposed to do something but what?".

. . . when you are riding your bicycle down hill, and you feather the brakes to increase the energy regeneration to the batter . . . oops . . . no battery.

At first, I kept bumping into my apartment door, expecting it to unlock when I touched the doorknob. Now, 3 1/2 years later, my primary car is the Zap Xebra, and I keep forgetting that I have to take the key out of my pocket and put it in the slot and turn it. At least, with the Xebra, there's no engine to start, ever.

My lucky husband, who gets to drive the Menace, now remarks at how "barbaric" it is to have to actually stick the key in the ignition in my car.

He's got a point, but I remind him that my driver's seat automatically adjusts to me when I get in, and the Pri seat doesn't. I guess that makes us even, at least for now.

I haven't stood at the door to my office waiting for the door to unlock and open without me using my security badge, yet- but I'm blonde, so I'm sure that will come at some time.
