It probably is, however the severely mileage obsessed will count the fraction of a milliwatt used by the logic circuitry.

Fraction of a milliwatt? Is there some way we can eliminate this unwanted drain? What if I cut the wires and put in a two pound knife switch?

HID lamps tend to last almost forever.

Maybe not as long; but still, in comparison to the halogen lamps (when both are used as DRLs), HIDs will last quite long.

I don't have the HIDs, but there really is a benefit to Daytime Running Lights, it seems strange but people really do notice you more often. This could be pretty important with this car since it is so quiet. I usually leave the light switch on. The lights shut off automatically when you power the car off. That's how my old Subaru was. All Subarus work that way, and I always left the light switch on in that car.

Just be sure to open the drivers side door after you power off the car or the headlights will not turn off. I have heard that occasionally people have powered off the car from the passenger side after closing the driver side door, and in doing so have left the lights on.
